While blood pressure is a common, painless, and quick measurement, it is also a key vital sign that can provide significant insight into a patient's condition. Blood pressure cuffs make it possible to monitor serious conditions such as a hypertensive emergency or the onset of shock, both of which can cause irreversible organ damage if not detected and treated. Blood pressure also helps signal to the medical team other complications or injuries that can arise as a result of traumatic events.

Wheelchairs are essential to all departments of Orlando Regional Medical Center. They are often used to transport patients to other areas of the hospital for additional tests and treatments and are frequently used during the rehabilitation of trauma patients. They can also provide patients with mobility to get out of their rooms, whether it be a trip to the cafeteria or outside for some Florida sunshine.

The Air Care Team's first scene mission over 25 years ago involved two patients from Florida's Turnpike in Osceola County. Since then, the Air Care Team has flown more than 24,000 patients with more than 1.5 million accident-free rescue mission miles. The Air Care Team plays a significant role in Orlando Regional Medical Center’s trauma and critical care services by responding quickly and providing definitive care within the "golden hour," the first hour after a traumatic injury occurs. Seriously injured patients have a 15-20% higher chance of survival if they receive care at a trauma center within the golden hour.

Even trauma teams have to remember their ABC’s (Airway, Breathing, Circulation). Airway management is one of the most critical skills in managing a trauma patient – and is actually the first step medical personal address. As a Level One Trauma Center, Orlando Health must ensure our trauma team has the most advanced tools available to establish an airway and restore breathing – even when traditional methods fail.
